Financial accounting represents the business relationships of a company with its environment (customers, suppliers, debtors, creditors) and the resulting changes in its assets and capital in terms of value. The course conveys the possible benefits of financial accounting as well as the basic concepts. By teaching the basic structure of accounting and showing the relationship between profit and loss accounts and balance sheet accounts, the course aims to lay the foundations for the technical preparation and understanding of the content of financial statements. Financial management includes all measures aimed at the procurement and repayment of financial resources. At the same time, this has a significant influence on the design of the information, control and hedging relationships between the company and the providers of capital.

Learning objectives:
Cost accounting provides the data basis not only for profitability controls, but also for a large part of all business decisions. Participants are familiarized with the three-part basic structure of cost accounting. They then work on advanced methods of strategic cost management and controlling. The core idea in each case is to organize efficient and effective service processes, even under the special conditions in the healthcare sector. Investment appraisal serves to teach methods that can be used to determine the advantageousness, preferability and optimal timing of investments. In this context, the methods of business valuation are applied to acquisition (investment) or disposal (divestment). Further topics are the determination of the optimal useful life, the optimal replacement times as well as the optimal investment program. As a central application area of investment theory, the fundamentals and basic issues of modern future-oriented business valuation are discussed.

Quality management aims at ensuring, maintaining and improving the quality of processes and offerings. In the course, the theoretical background of quality management will be explained and popular methods (total quality management, certification, quality awards) will be critically examined. Furthermore, an outlook on specific problems of quality management in medicine (e.g. diagnosis and therapy management) will be given. EbM is the conscientious and judicious use of the current best scientific evidence for decisions in the medical care of individual patients. EbM principles can be applied from the individual patient to many areas of health care, including health system management decisions. This course provides an overview of the methods, opportunities, and limitations of EbM.

Module Management and Leadership
Learning Outcomes:
The learning objective is to develop a more conscious and serene way of working and living. The participants are shown ways to question their own habits in dealing with time. In addition, knowledge is imparted on how to design a presentation in an informative, understandable and interesting way and how to use appropriate media for this purpose. The Leadership and Motivation course takes into account the increasing importance of motivated employees as a key success factor in practices and clinics. To build up this social (leadership) competence, theoretical basics alternate with practical applications. In project management, techniques and means for the successful completion of a project are demonstrated. The aim of the course is to map out a structured workflow in order to perform tasks effectively with regard to the project goal to be achieved. The course Negotiation and Conflict Management deals with typical situations of negotiation and conversation as they should be mastered by decision makers in their daily work. Practical exercises will deepen the theoretical knowledge. Aim of the course
Entrepreneurship and Management in Health Care Markets is to recognize the importance of adopting basic concepts and action patterns of entrepreneurship in existing organizational forms of health care.

Advanced modules of choice
Learning Outcomes:
The increasing complexity of service processes in hospitals demands a high level of organizational competence from managers. On the basis of a solid theoretical foundation, participants learn to analyze problems of organizational structure and process organization and to develop their own proposals for solutions. This enables them to make appropriate management decisions, design organizational structures, and plan and implement stringent work processes. The special legal framework conditions (e.g. DRGs) and the special features of service provision (e.g. clinical pathways) in hospitals require precise knowledge of how controlling instruments work. The course provides the medical professional with the ability to understand or design the economic information flows necessary for management decisions. The development of limited fee increases with simultaneously increasing cost pressure is increasingly being countered with medical forms of cooperation. The course Medical Forms of Cooperation and Organization deals with the different types and forms of cooperation with special attention to tax and (contractual) legal issues.

In addition to practice-related financing scenarios, this course also maps a credit decision from the perspective of the lender. Suitable marketing measures are dealt with, which take into account the special structures of a pharmacy. These include, in particular, pricing policy and a product policy appropriate to the target group. Building on general management knowledge, the Management in Healthcare course deals with the specific features of managing healthcare facilities.
